Kohekohe (Didymocheton spectabilis or Dysoxylum spectabile) flowering on the Tennyson Inlet islands where it is under less pressure from introduced pest species.
Also known as New Zealand mahogany, Kohekohe is notable for having characteristics normally associated with trees growing in the tropics, for example, its flowers and fruit grow directly from the trunk or branches (known as cauliflory).
