The Victoria Tree amongst dense rata forest on the site of the former settlement of Hardwicke.

The HMCS Victoria was sent to look for survivors from the Grafton wreck. They carved H.M.C.S. VICTORIA NORMAN IN SEARCH OF SHIPWRECKED PEOPLE OCT 13TH 1865 into the tree.

Hardwicke in Port Ross on the main Auckland Island was a short lived settlement started in the mid 1800’s.
