A large pakohe / Argillite boulder in the Hackett River.
Argillite, known for its hardness and sharpness, is a hallmark of New Zealand's Nelson-Marlborough region, particularly found on D'Urville Island and along local river headwaters. Esteemed by early Māori for crafting tools and weapons, its conchoidal fracture also yielded sharp flakes for traditional carving, weaving, and net-making.
